The Inland Regional Energy Network (I-REN) Program is pleased to present upcoming energy building codes training sessions which include approved Continuing Education Units (CEU) through the International Code Council (ICC). The virtual trainings are provided courtesy of I-REN.
I-REN is a strategic partnership between the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, San Bernardino Council of Governments (SBCOG), and the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) that bring much-needed energy efficiency resources, education, and funding to our region.
Building Officials, permit technicians, plan checkers, field inspectors, and other building professionals are encouraged to attend these complimentary virtual trainings. These online trainings are designed to equip building staff with the tools necessary to perform plan checks, conduct field inspections, and ultimately issue building permits more efficiently.

Wednesday, November 1 9:00am–10:30am CEU 0.1 | How the Energy Code Treats Electrification The 2022 Energy Code in California actively promotes electrification as a crucial step to combat greenhouse gas emissions. Various electric appliances like heat pump water heaters, heat pump space conditioners, and induction cooktops are subject to different aspects of the building code, as well as planning and zoning regulations. Due to the implementation of stronger incentives and reach codes aimed at advancing electrification, the permit applications for projects may differ significantly from the conventional business-as-usual upgrades. This course will center on the energy code and green building code, emphasizing their importance in driving sustainable practices. |
Wednesday, November 8 9:00am–10:30am CEU 0.1 | 2022 Energy Code Changes – Multi-Family This course will provide an overview of the 2022 Energy Code changes for multifamily buildings, including changes to the structure of the energy code, where to find the new multifamily sections, and changes to mandatory measures and performance and prescriptive requirements. |
Wednesday, November 15 9:00am–10:30am CEU 0.1 | Unlocking Savings for School Facilities with the Energy Code I-REN will cover energy code changes pertaining to Kindergarten through University school facilities and offer recommendations for low-cost/no-cost ways schools can reduce energy consumption and overall energy costs. |
