The Ontario International Airport (ONT) Connector Project reached another critical milestone in its development process. At their March 3, 2025, meeting, the SBCTA Board of Directors approved adoption of the project’s Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR). In July 2022 SBCTA filed a Notice of Preparation with the California Office of Planning and Research, circulated public notices and held a public scoping meeting. Upon completion of the draft state EIR and federal Environmental Assessment (EA) in October 2024, notice was issued, and a public comment period was opened. In February 2025, the Final EIR and EA was released to the public.
This proposed ONT Connector project will create an underground transit connection between the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station and ONT terminals. The project will seamlessly integrate into the Cucamonga Station, which will also serve as the terminus for the privately funded Brightline West electrified high-speed rail connection between Las Vegas and Southern California, as well as the zero-emission West Valley Connector bus rapid transit service coming in 2026.
Operated and maintained by Omnitrans, the project will feature a subway-like bi-directional system where passengers traveling to and from ONT will be transported in autonomous, zero-emission vehicles on an “on-demand” basis.
This innovative project will encourage ONT passengers to take public transit connections to the Cucamonga Station to access ONT, improving traffic surrounding the airport and reducing car trips throughout the region.
