ZEMU Project Recognized with Hydrogen Safety Award

March 13, 2025

SBCTA’s Zero Emission Multiple Unit project, also known as ZEMU, was recently selected to receive the Dr. Robert Zalosh Hydrogen Safety Excellence Award from the Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS).  The ZEMU project was recognized for its dedication to excellence that significantly contributes to the enhancement of safety best practices within the industry.

CHS is a global non-profit dedicated to promoting hydrogen safety and best practices worldwide.  As a recognized leader in hydrogen safety, they provide guidance, education and collaborative forums to realize the successful and transformative benefits of hydrogen.

Dr. Zalosh’s teaching, research, and mentorship in industrial fire safety were foundational to the field, significantly advancing knowledge and best practices.  He was a founding member of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrogen Safety Panel, which was formed in 2003 to provide expertise and guidance on safety issues related to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. He played a crucial role in the Panel’s success by assessing safety aspects, identifying potential risks, and recommending mitigation strategies for various projects.

Congratulations to the SBCTA and the entire ZEMU project team.
