Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Now Operational at Santa Fe Depot in San Bernardino

January 16, 2018

In an effort to meet the needs of today’s commuter, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) has installed new level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Historic Santa Fe Depot in San Bernardino. SBCTA was awarded a $450,000 grant from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) for the purchase and installation of the EV charging stations. Using ChargePoint EV chargers, the network will provide EV location mapping, real-time charging status, notifications, as well as pricing and payment information available via smart phone apps.
The EV charging stations were identified in the development plans for the Metrolink extension from the Santa Fe Depot to the San Bernardino Transit Center and are being funded through the MSRC grant. The charging stations are available for use by transit users, visitors, and employees, with additional charging stations expected to be installed at both the Santa Fe Depot and San Bernardino Transit Center in 2018 through the MSRC grant.
Current pricing for use of the EV chargers operational at the Santa Fe Depot is $0.25 per kWH with an additional $5.00 per hour fee after the first hour of the vehicle being fully charged. For additional pricing information, drivers should review the pricing policy using the ChargePoint mobile app or by visiting their website at www.chargepoint.com.
SBCTA will continue to pursue grants to meet evolving needs of San Bernardino County commuters as the use of electric vehicles continues to grow.
