Freeway Service Patrol Drivers Recognized

May 9, 2023

At the May Board of Directors meeting, Board members recognized drivers who serve in SBCTA’s Freeway Service Patrol (FSP) Program. The FSP Program began in January of 2006 and consists of a fleet of tow trucks that travel on selected San Bernardino County freeways during peak periods of congestion to assist motorists with their disabled cars. The program has demonstrated many benefits to the public by reducing the amount of time a motorist is in an unsafe condition and reducing traffic congestion. FSP drivers patrol more than 95 freeway miles along Interstates 10, 15 and 215, as well as State Routes 60 and 210.

FSP drivers provide services such as flat tire changes, battery jump-starts, locked keys in cars, providing a gallon of gas, as well as driver safety checks to see if a motorist is in need of assistance. Since the start of program, FSP has assisted more than 940,000 motorists on San Bernardino County highways. In the 2022 calendar year, FSP drivers assisted more than 83,000 stranded motorists. Motorists that are helped by FSP drivers are all given a comment card to help monitor the level of service provided by drivers. The FSP Program received more than 1,000 comment cards in 2022, with 99.5% overall rating their experience excellent or good.

For the past ten years, the FSP program has recognized outstanding drivers for their excellence in assisting motorists. For the 2022 year, SBCTA FSP Program Management, the California Highway Patrol, recognized five drivers for their outstanding efforts, high-level of professionalism and excellent customer service.

The 2022 FSP Program Driver Awardees were:
