At the April Board of Directors meeting, SBCTA Board Members approved the establishment of a new Legislative Policy Committee. This committee will receive updates on federal and state legislation and polices that impact SBCTA’s ability to deliver and fund transportation projects in San Bernardino County. The establishment of the new committee was necessitated by recent state legislation would greatly impact SBCTA as an organization and its stewardship of Measure I tax dollars. SBCTA took an oppose position on the two state bills, Assembly Bill 2011 and Senate Bill 1390, and Board Members expressed a desire for more members to have the opportunity to weigh in proposed legislation in the future.
The committee will be comprised of seven members, the SBCTA Board President, Vice President, Immediate Past President and four Board Members appointed by the Board President. To ensure balanced representation on the committee, the four appointed members will be selected from the various geographical regions of the county. One member will be selected from the West San Bernardino Valley, one from the East San Bernardino Valley, one member from the Mountain Desert region and one County Supervisor. The committee will meet on an as-needed basis, adhering to State public meeting laws, to weigh and take official positions on State and Federal legislation.
