Safety for the traveling public is paramount, especially when traveling within a construction zone. However, various construction activities cannot be performed with moving traffic nearby, requiring crews to close local streets, on- and off-ramps or freeway lanes to allow crews to perform necessary work.
To manage the impact to the traveling public, traffic volumes are often considered when scheduling specific construction activities and closures. Depending on the construction activity and equipment that is used, work windows may vary and include a daytime closure, nighttime closure, or multiple-hour closure, such as a continuous 55-hour closure, which typically starts at 10:00 p.m. on a Friday night and end by 5:00 a.m. the following Monday.
To accommodate the widening of the I-10 Freeway, several closures are scheduled in October* throughout the project corridor between the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line and I-15. Motorists should plan ahead, use alternate routes, leave early, and allow extra time to reach their destination.
• The eastbound Central Avenue on-ramp is closed through Friday, October 15 at 5:00 a.m. Detour routes are posted.
