SBCTA recently had the distinction of receiving two awards, for the I-10 Express Lanes Project, from the California Association of Public Information Officials (CAPIO). CAPIO is the leading statewide organization dedicated to advancing public sector communicators across all levels of government. Their EPIC awards program recognizes the most creative and effective efforts in the areas of communication and marketing campaigns, newsletter production, photography, special events, writing, website development, and video production.
The I-10 Express Lanes groundbreaking video received the EPIC Award for One-Time Special or Community Event. Presented at an awards luncheon in late August, the judges’ panel commended our flexibility in shifting from a 1,000-person event to a remote version in light of the global pandemic. Also commended were the production and professionalism of our groundbreaking videos, which included one full-length video and three shorter videos tailored to each of the project corridor’s cities – Ontario, Montclair, and Upland.
Our ongoing I-10 Express Lanes webinar series received the Award of Distinction for Recurring Special or Community Event. Panel judges commended our efforts to make agency staff accessible through multiple webinars and our commitment to provide clear explanations and transparency in the name of community education. What started as a webinar series to provide pertinent project information has evolved to present information and topics based on community feedback, another point that made our project noteworthy in the eyes of the judges. To date, we have produced eight webinars to highlight this significant project, all of which can be viewed on SBCTA’s YouTube page.
