Route 42
The new Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) Route 42 began its daily bus service between north Apple Valley and Victorville on Sunday, August 13.
The route now connects VVTA’s major transfer point at Victor Valley College (VVC) to previously unserved key locations throughout northern Apple Valley. They include major bus stops at the VVC Regional Public Safety Training Center, Walmart Distribution Center, the High Desert Juvenile Detention Center, and Los Ranchos Mobile Home Park.
“This route is a milestone for the community. In addition to VVC and its Regional Public Safety Training Center, which trains future firefighters, police officers, paramedics and emergency medical technicians,” said VVTA Board Member and Town of Apple Valley Council Member Barb Stanton. “The bus route will offer service to over a thousand employees at the Walmart Distribution Center.”
Single-trip fixed route fare is $1.25. Student discount fare is $1. Single-trip discount fare is 60 cents for veterans, seniors 60 and over, and those with disabilities or on Medicare. Students age 14 and over and all discount fares require photo identification.
“This is the first wave of system improvements outlined in the recent VVTA Comprehensive Operational Analysis,” said VVTA Chair and Victorville Mayor Gloria Garcia. “We are encouraged to see the positive impact this route will have on the lives of the 400 homes at Los Ranchos Mobile Home Park, for example. It opens significant opportunities for those families, students, and senior citizens who had few public transportation options previously.
